A little modeling..

I added some details on a couple of HO models for a friend here in town over the week. After the silly season is over, I'm going to get back to the N scale stuff. But, the HO was a nice diversion..

Just a note...

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of the holiday rush (gotta love retail work) but I have been thinking about my new paint booth. So look for something about that shortly.

The design I'm considering is something that will fit on my bench that I can use indoors. I've got some ideas penciled in, I just need to add some details on my next trip to Home Depot.

I'm also still thinking about the new layout, I'm just not sure on how big cause we still haven't figured out the house thing yet. I may do a HCD layout for the heck of it.

Addition to the bench..

Well, I'm getting back to working on things. But, I got tired of the clutter all over my bench. So, out to garage to build something that will take care of this..

A few boards later, I've got this...

It's 5.5 feet wide, 2.5 feet tall and gets alot of stuff off my bench...

Moved and such..

Got our move done (along with a road trip) and I'm back at the bench.

I order some metal wheel sets for testing and I'm leaning more and more towards them. The only snag is the amount of sets I need! Oy! Well, at least it'll force me the start weathering and mounting body mounts on all the cars I have and have ignored.

I also learned that it's time to get rid of some stuff. I moved all my hobby stuff and it's just too much crap. Time to thin out the ranks. I'm also give real serious thought to modeling a modern free lanced railroad. That one will take a little time to think about.

The road trip got me thinking about my layout and the design. I also now understand the deal with coal trains. There were other interesting trains along the way that gave me some really neat ideas for trains. Now to mix the two at the new place. But I can give an idea about the new layout. Think Free-mo. At least, something along those lines.

More later!

Airbrush booth page..

Just a quick note, while I begin my move into a new house. I've collected and posted all the info on my paint booth into it's own page that you will find a link for to the right. I'm going to modify my booth at the new house, so look for some new ideas.

A little this, a little that..

So I have been working on stuff. Mostly repairs for friends and 1/24th scale fire trucks. Sorry, I like them!

But, I have started doing something with those big ARMN icebergs from BLMA. One is some graffiti, the other a black wash to start weathering. The wash is something new from Polly Scale and they have released about a dozen different type, including driftwood.

I'm going to get the decals where I want them and then do some more weathering.

I also captured a load for the next BLMA 89ft flatcar..

More later..

So, it's running 100+ degrees in the valley, I figured I'd go somewhere it was 90+ instead...

The catch of the day.. WP 1983 with a biz train..

Taken at Caliente, well worth the wait.

I've been working on some BLMA reefers. Update to follow...

Well, time for more than a change..

For the time, the railroad is going to be shelved. We're moving from our current house in the next couple of months to another house, so as of right now, the layout itself will take a back seat to other things like packing.

However, I have been giving more and more thought to modeling something along the lines of Lance Mindheim's CSX layout, but based more on the LAJ. With the move and a possibility of a smaller space, I think I'll be more of a shelf layout.

So, any updates to the blog will be for painting and weathering cars along with anything else I can come up with.

The other advantage to the move were doing is that were going to be buying a house, so no more renting! It also means I'll spend some time doing room prep before building.

Stay tuned for more stuff..

Update in June...

Well, it's been awhile since I updated. Thanks for the reminder Jeff.. :-)

I really haven't done anything on the layout in months, and I had started a change to it but I've decided to change up the whole idea. So here is where I'm at now...

Yep, everything is gone and done. Right now, I'm not sure what I'm going to put in here. But something is going to go in. :-) But first, I need to move my workbench and some of the benchwork. Look for another update shortly.

Wow...

Hey everyone! I took a break during the holidays but I've started getting back into the swing of things.

So, having a railroad that hauls lumber means I need some lumber loads. I recently got some Red Caboose centerbeam cars for a good deal on the N Scale Yard Sale list on Yahoogroups. So now it's time to add some lumber...

The loads are balsa wood cut to 12, 16 & 20 foot lengths. The ends are painted and basswood 4x4 spacers are glued in. After the glue dries, the spacers are trimmed and the load is pretty much ready. Basswood could also be used, but my local shop didn't have any that would fit when I was there.

I plan to start some scenery work this weekend, so watch this space!
